Local Youth Among Survivors Of Mined Ship

These four men were among those aboard the Norwegian freighter Ronda who drifted two days in an open boat after their ship struck a mine off the island of Terschelling, North Holland. They were picked up by the Italian ship Providentza and landed at Flushing, Holland. Left to right: Douglas Miller, Ann Arbor; second mate (name unknown); Karl Hilgendorf, graduate of the University of Wisconsin; and First Mate R. Mork. This photo was flown to the United States. Miller, who had been on a bicycle trip in Europe, Is now en route home.
