Draft Registration Board Volunteers Sought In City

An appeal for volunteers to work Wednesday at Ann Arbor's polling places in registering men under the Selective Service Act was made today by City Clerk Fred C. Perry.

City officials plan to have complete organizations at the city's eight precinct units to expedite the registering of the men. "We want to give these men prompt service and avoid delays for those who may be taking time from their work to register," the city clerk explained today.

“To do this we will need a considerable number of workers and we hope a sufficient number of citizens will volunteer to adequately staff the polling places,’’ he continued. "This offers an opportunity to perform a real service to the community."

Volunteer workers must be citizens, residents of the city, at least 21 years of age, intelligent and able to write a legible hand. The registration booths will open at 7 a m. and close at 9 p m.

Workers may volunteer for all day work or for part time service. Citizens willing to serve may volunteer by telephoning or calling at the city clerk's office in the city hall.

Men registering under the Selective Service Act may register at any of the polling places. It is not necessary for them to register in the ward in which they reside, Mr. Perry said. Some of the men registering will be from out of the city, he explained, and there is no requirement of precinct classification.
