W restlers Are Beaten By Illinois

Michigan’s 17-dual meet winning streak in wrestling was halted at the Yost field house Saturday afternoon when an Illinois team nosed out the Wolverines, 16 to 14.

Illinois won the first four bouts on the program and Michigan took the last four but the Illini gained two falls to Michigan's one, thus winning the meet. Five points are given for a fall and three for a decision.

With Illinois leading, 16 to 0, as Petrie at 128 and Lutz at 136 pounds secured falls, Harlan Danner started the Wolverine scoring by pinning Ted Seabrooke of the Illini in 4:06 in the 155 pound division.

Both Jim Galles at 165 and Don Nichols at 175 came close to creating a meet tie as they had their adversaries in a bad way. The referee ruled that Galles had a punishing scissors hold on Boyd of Illinois, just as the Wolverine was about to secure a fall.

Nichols had the shoulders of Govedare nearly on the mat when the time limit elapsed.

Capt. “Butch" Jordan of the Wolverines had a chance to tie the meet with a fall but Frank Battalgia of Illinois stalled his way through the bout which was stopped several times by the referee on account of the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Illinois heavyweight.

The summary:

121 pound: Hill, Illinois, defeated Weidig. Michigan, 10 to 4.

128 pound: Petry, Illinois, pinned Robinson, Michigan, at 2:18.

136 pound: Lutz, Illinois, pinned Raschbacher, Michigan, at 2:18.

145 pound: Emmons, Illinois (capt.) defeated Paup, Michigan, 14 to 2.

155 pound: Danner, Michigan, pinned Seabrooke, Illinois, at 4:06.

165 pound: Galles, Michigan, defeated Boyd, Illinois, 13 to 1.

175 pound: Nichols, Michigan, defeated Govedare, Illinois, 18 to 5.

Heavyweight: Jordan, Michigan (capt.) defeated Battaglia, Illinois, 5 to 3.
