Tice, Francis A.
Ann Arbor, MI
Age 90, died Thursday, October 14, 1999 at his home. He was born on July 25, 1909 in Ann Arbor, the son of Frank A. and Elizabeth (Lavey) Tice. Frank attended St. Thomas Grade School until the eighth grade. He was married to Ellen Scott who preceded him in death in 1989. In 1939 Mr. Tice opened Tice's Men's Shop in Ann Arbor. He closed the shop in 1943 in order to serve his country in the 89th Division of the U.S. Army in France and Germany. Upon returning home in 1945 he reopened the store. In 1959 he took in a friend, Jim Calhoun, as a partner and continued working until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Tice was a member of St. Thomas Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was one of the original planners for the Ann Arbor Art Fair. Frank was a gentle and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a man of deep faith. He was a grand storyteller and had many friends in the Ann Arbor community. He is survived by sons, William (Mary Ann) and Michael; grandchildren, Kathleen (John) Frey, Dennis (Kara), Matthew (Kim), Susan, Christopher and Leah; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by sister, Leonella Blum. He will be missed by friends, family and especially by his very good friends, Robert Stenberg of Port St. Lucie, FL, Albert Wistert of Grants Pass, OR, Franz Leider of Germany, and Doc Waters of Saginaw, MI. Services will be Saturday, October 16 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Vincke presiding. Friends may call at MUEHLIG CHAPEL on Friday from 7-9 P.M. A Rosary will be said at 8:00 P.M. Interment at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Thomas Grade School or to a charity of your choice.
