Boy, 9, Killed On Highway
Two On One Bicycle Cut In Front Of Car; Second Seriously Hurt
Donald McAllister, nine years old, 5010 Park Rd., died shortly after noon today as the result of injuries suffered when the bicycle on which he and another boy, Larry Bonhan, eight, of Myrtle St., were riding, was hit by a car driven by Mrs. Blance Hodson Thurston, of 1949 Jackson Ave.
Donald was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McAllister.
The accident occurred on US-12, four and one-half miles west of Ann Arbor, about 10 o'clock this morning.
Both boys were taken to St. Joseph's Mercy hospital, where Larry still is in a serious condition.
Sheriff's reports say that the boys, who were riding along the highway on the shoulder, were traveling in the same direction as the car and cut out in front of it.
Mrs. Thurston was released after questioning by Prosecutor John Rae, pending further investigation. Mr. Rae expressed the opinion that the accident was unavoidable.
Donald was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Ann Arbor, and was a student at the Scio township school. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Jean and Sandra, both at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin McAllister of Springfield, O., and his maternal grandfather, Richard Bucholz of Ann Arbor.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
