Retired In 1948 After 23 Years At The News
Frank M. Kellogg, 88, for 23 years an employe of The Ann Arbor News until his retirement in 1948, died last night at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital after a prolonged illness. He lived at 715 Lawrence St.
Born March 4, 1867, in Wheatland township, Hillsdale county, Mr. Kellogg was the son of Walter and Lucinda Boley Kellogg.
He attended Michigan Agricultural College in Lansing, although he never put his farming studies into practice.
Instead, Mr. Kellogg traveled extensively, visiting nearly ever city and village in 11 states, first as a traveling salesman and later as representative of one of the pioneer credit firms, the National Rating League of Chicago.
He came to Ann Arbor in 1920 and joined The News in 1925 as an employe of the business office. During his newspaper career, he served as a credit representative at Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Manchester, Dundee, Britton, Clinton and other area communities. The quiet, white-haired man of slight build became well known and respected in county business circles.
On June 13, 1893, he was married to Ida Kessler Berry at Evanston, Ill. Mrs. Kellogg's family had moved to that city after their home burned to the ground in the great Chicago fire. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Kellogg lived in Battle Creek.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Roger B. of Chicago, Rolland G. of Patterson, N. J., and Ivan of Newark, N. J.; a daughter, Mrs. Nelson Harris of East Orange, N. J., 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements not yet complete, are being made by the Muehlig Chapel, where friends may call after today.
