YPSILANTI - Alex J. Nulan, 71 years old, local hardware merchant and president of the Ypsilanti fire commission, died Sunday afternoon in the Beyer Memorial Hospital here following an illness of about six weeks.
He was born May 24, 1872, in London, England, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Nulan, and when 10 years old came with his parents to Ottowa. In 1890 he came to Cadillac, and two years later to Ypsilanti to attend the Cleary College here, from which he graduated, and has since resided in this city.
For a time after completing his education he was employed in the Harris Bros. grocery store and later in the LeForge hardware store. In 1922 he built and occupied a hardware store on N. Washington St., where he continued in business until the present time.
He was formerly a member of the city council, and had always been active in civic affairs.
On Sept. 14, 1898, he married Miss Genevieve Gunn, of Ypsilanti, who died Feb. 13, 1931.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Leo A. Cadarette, Detroit; three grandchildren; and a brother, John, Detroit.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in St. John's Catholic Church here, and burial will be in St. John's cemetery.
The rosary will be said at 8 o'clock Tuesday night at the Moore funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home.
