Barnard, Jean Lynn
Ann Arbor, MI
She was born in Tiffin, OH, in 1918. Her family moved to Germany, her mother's birthplace, and Jean went to school there until they returned to the U.S. in 1936. She attended Hathaway Brown Academy and the University of Michigan where she met her husband, Earl David Barnard. Earl enlisted in the Navy and his plane disappeared in 1942, six months before their daughter was born. Jean never remarried. She had a long career as a librarian, starting with a few years at Miami University, Oxford, OH, and then at her beloved University of Michigan. She retired from the Medical School Library, where her assistance was appreciated and cited in publications by grateful authors. She also, on a personal basis, helped many people, including friends and relatives attending school; and groups such as the Friends of the University of Michigan Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and will be remembered for this as well. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Lynn Barnard Rice (Michael Rice), of New Mexico. She was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth Mueller, her father, Clinton Arthur Lynn, and her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Lynn McKay. Arrangements entrusted to Muehlig Funeral Chapel.
