A young ai.d h;indsonie girl, aged -ixteen, hVrriad Sarah Mercer, the datighler of vcry wenllhy and respectablo parents, was seduced by a young man named Iloberton, aged 25, aláü of tlie first respectability. The fiiends of the girl proposed marriage to the sfcduccr, which was declined. The brother of thegirJ, Sinpleton Mercer, notyetL0 years of age, then challenged Heburton, who declined fighting. Singleton followed Heberion trom the city, and shot him through the back with a pistol, while setting in a carnaje. He died Jn a few m 'ñutes. Tiie murderer is in custody. It appears, however, that yoimg Singleton, who was so kcenly sensitive, to the honor of his famly, a short time bcfore. had seduccd a poor friendless servant girl in his father's family, but as she had no one to demand "satisfaclion" for her, the whole matter wus hushed up by the payment of $300 to the guardians of !he poor.
