Ata Church of the First Presbyterinn Church of Le Roy, Michigan, convened for the purpose of expressing their sentiments respecting American Slavery, the followjng resolutions were passed by tlie Members present unanimously : 1. Resolved, That it is nn appropriate duty of the Churches, the Ecclesiastical Bjdies, and the Benevolent Sucieties to speak out the truth respecting Ameiican slavery. 2. That slavery is a violation of principies of eternul right, and consequenlly is a heinoussin ag-.ïinst God, that it is theft nnd robby unparalelled, and in ils effec Is cruel and inJVirious in the extreme. 3.' That Patriotism, Philanthropy nnd Re Jibión combine to demand the immediate, uni' versal and unconditional emancipation of eve ryslave. 4. Tliat jnsnee requires that the slavrs be i Ailly remurierated and compensated for all they have done Sisuffered in conseqeuence of slavery 5. That we as Cliristians, as Stewards and as Citizens, hereby pledge in behalf of the Slave ant1 the Fugitives, a share in our efïbrts, our propert}', and our prayers. 6. That reason and the principies of Revelation include as Participants in the gnilt of slavery, the Ciüzens of the Northern States who in 1843 are apologists, nnd who having the requiiüie information and opportunity, are indifferent or silent in respect to slaverv.7. That it is lo us a cause of grief and alarm that by Nalional Acts and cnactments slavery is Nationalizec1, and also that some Ecclesiaslical Bodies by preventing inquiry, by gagginL discussion, by dctermined silenceagainst, and direct approval of it, have virtually adopted, nurtured, and baptised American slavery. 8 . That we would with due charity and candor expross our eolemn and delibérate conviction that all Participators in the guilt of American slavery are defective in moral and Christian character, and we feel bound to govern ourselves accordingly. 9. That we freely and joyfully admit all the extenuating circumstances in favor of the slaveholder, and that the Guilty shall share with the Innocent in our tsympathy and prayers. 10. That the proceedings of this meeting be signed by the Moderator nnd Clerk, and forwarded to the Signal of Liberty for publication.
