Below is an extract from a speech made at the Anti-Slavery Conventio or llie New Eftgland Cunfercnce of' Episcopal Melhodists by a preacher named Hoes, said to be a brother-inJaw of Ex-President -Van Buren. - Voiccof Freedom. He had scen t-Iavery in its lightrst charles, and in its darkest colors, and deepest horrors; he had seen it ín our Southern States and Texas. He statcd one case of a wealthy Me hodist and an extensivo sluve-holder, who went thirty miles to m.i'ket to sell a pJave - and sold him, anJ suld Kim away from liid wife too! and the next day cnuie to hear him ireach. He went home with him, and put up at his house, and wor&e slavery he had ecoh no where, tlian he saw on tliot man's planta' ion. Tnstead of their being taught to read the Scriptures, and being allowed to attend public worship as the rulo requires, they werc not even allowed to come in at famiiy prayers.. - He had travelled extensively among Metho - dist sluve-holders, ond never, but in one in6tance, kno wn the slaves called to attend family devotion, and that was theresult of hisown carncst plcading that they might be culled. Mr. end Mrs. Raymoüd, the Mcndian mis6ionaries, have just arrived in the country.
