It isa grcat cvil to endure the vast amount of poverty and pauperism now prevalent 'n every qijaner ol' ihe world; and in the train of this evil follott thousands more. F rom the best authorities we learn, that in Europe alone ihere are sevnntcen millionsoí beggars. 13esides that immense mullitude, there nre millions more, who are silent starvelings bcyond the hope of th-i bèggara pittance. Our comparatively happy Union is far f 'rom being exemptfrorn the like evil. lts cure can be efiected. It can be done, as it has been done! As it has been done by a single Institution in one neighborhood, soit can be done by like iristitutions in every neighborhood. In Franco, at an expense of 100.000, an extensive farm was purchased, a vast building constructcd. with shops, manu faetones, and npartments. all in a style ot convenience. comfort and clegance. Every thing was furmshed. in each depnrtment, ready for practical operations. Three hundred poor families were seleeled and put in possession of the whole. Ench famüy h;id ts separate apartincnts, with iiy privilege in the dining hall, the the dining saloons, or oí hnving its meáis brought to its own apartments - its privileirs in the library, the cabine:, at the lecturesand in the schools - its piivilege of ful] employment and frtr, cmployment, and its guarantee of full cornpensation for every hour spent in labor, but none ior idleness.' Of the proceeds of the whole business, one quarter went to pny for the use of the capital, and three quarters went to pay those by whom the business was caried on. The one quarter gave to the capital investeñ 3} per cent interest the first year - one per cent more thnn the coinnion rate in Franc. - and the three quarters gave to each familv, besides an excellent support, a small dividend in cash - a dividend that averaged, to each of the 300 families, $40 in cash. Thai Institution is a Fouritr Aaso-iaiion. lts members were blessed with nbundunce. elegancc, harmonij and happiness. Auundanck was becured by a little labor, in consequence of va6t economies. Such cconomie8 are an inevitable attendant on the nrrangoments of nn Association. For instance, the kitchen work of three hundred families, as now conducted, requires the time of at least three hundred women. As manas èd in nn Association, 30 will do it; so that 270 ol the 300become profitnble producers, and earn, at only one dollnr per week. above ft] 4,000 a year. Thie saving of itself. lor 30 yenry, creates a fortune of $420,000. TIiib is no; fancy, nor mere thoory - t is the certaintv ol figures based on actual experience. Elkgance can always and every wher2 be attained by the uniied capital of nn Association. - jt is n competent part of the system. Harmony is the certain result of such provisions as the following: The system provides for the preventation of discord by the annihilation of its causes. If individuáis neither buy of individuáis nor sell to individuáis, they will neither dispute nbout nor choat in bargains. Individual buy ol the Association - of the council of commerce - nt the wholesale prices. The same council sell all the association have for sale. Harmony is preserved mnong the children by giving tnem pleusant and profitable amusements and eraployments under the constant superviai on of nurse8 and teachers. Happiness is secured by removing all anxiety for the future. Each member is sure of a chance to toil without bcgging for it, and surc oï a goodsupport for I i fe. A parent is sure ihat his children will have a goodeducation anda good home. Ench memher is in society without its discorde, bleesed with nbundance of the world's goods. with clegance in his accomdation, and harmony in all his intcrcourse. His labor is agreeable and light. he has time for mental, moral and religious culiivation - time to prepare forenjoyment in a Ii ie that shall never end, whcre the children of a Divine Parent shall associate in IidIv unitv
