This gentleman has been nominated by the Democracy of Westein Michigan to represent them in Congreso. They probably could not have selected n man more truly after their ovvn heart. Mr. Lyon was formerly a Senator from this State. We never lcarned that he did any thing remaTkable in that capacity. He filled lus seat in the Senate, and in connection with nis worthy comrade, Mr. John Norvell, was faithful to the slavocracy. On everp quesiion respect ing human liberty, he was never suspected of ultraism. The following memorandum of sume of bis votes lies before ns. We have not compared it with the files, but suppose it to be correct. Dec. 18, 1337. Voted to lay on the table the question of anti-hlavery petitions. Carried 25 to 20. This is equivalent to the Gag Rule in the House, and is kow a standing rule in the Sennte. (tJMr. Woodbridge will not, and Mr. Poutkr dare not say one word against it! We can substantiate this by Mr. Porter himself.cJ)Jan. 6, 1838. Voted for Calhoun's resoIution ihat the general government is bound '[to give increased stability and security to the domestic institutions of the States." Carried, 31 lo II. Jan 9, 1838. Voted fur Cnlhoun's fourth reeolution, that systematic attacks on 6lavery are "a violation of solemn obligations, moral and religious." Carried, 34 to 5. Jan. 10, 1838. Voted for Clay's reaolution ogainst the aboütion of slavery in the District of Columbia. Carried, 36 to 9. Jan. 10, 1838. Voted for Clay's resolution aoainst abolñion "n any Territorj of the United Stated." Carried, 33 to 9. From these items, the electors of the Third District can judge for themselves what kind of acandidate they have before them. Should he be elected, he will of course go for {UGags,-;) in any number and degree his mastere mny order; and also for eternal slavtry. Can t be the Freemen of the West will sustain such a candidate?
