IVAN DOlG will read from and sign his novel "Bucking the Sun," the story of a family put to work on a New Deal dam project and the tragedy that traps some and pardons others. 668-7652.  Reading: Shaman Drum Call for time, 315 S. State. ALVIA GOLDEN and friends (including local literati BETTY BELL and ELIZABETH CLARE) will read poetry from "The Arc of Love: An Anthology of Lesbian Love Poems." 7 Tuesday    Ann Arbor Poetry Slam: Borders 8 pm, The Heidelberg Club Above, 215 N. Main. Ann Arbor poet and shoe salesman MIKE MYERS will be May's featured reader. Mike, who is offering to measure anyone's feet who attends, says his poetry "overstates the obvious and understates the inconsequential." $3 cover. 426-3451.

9 Thursday    New Poems and Old-Time Music: Guild House 8 pm, 802 Monroe. Mountain man and multi-slam champion performance poet, WOLF KNIGHT and local farmer and musician, KEN KING will look at hard times, past and present. Prof. Andrea Henderson challenges the traditional assumption that Romantic writing is the literary birthplace of psychological depth in literature. Celebrated author EDWIDGE DANTICAT will read from her book of nine short stories, "Krik? Krak!" In recognition of World in Translation Month, AMY COOPER will speak on her translation of French Feminist MARIE CARDINAL'S "In Other Words."
