Thé Synod of Michigan met at White Pigeonf on the 12th of October, and continued in session till Tuesday night, the1 members remaining together over Sabbath and uniting in the commemarationof the dying love of JesusChrist ín the sacrament of His Supper. Amongtheir doings were the following resolutïons on the subject of Slavery; Resolved, That the Synod fee! bound to reitérate the sentiment heretofbre expressed, that slavery, as ft exists ín the United States and Territories, is a very gl-eat moral, politícal, and natioiml evil. Resolved, That in the opinión ofthis Synod, there are no eviïs ín existence at the present d'ay ia our land against which more prompt and decided action is required by our national and State Legisl atares, b'y all ècclesiastical bodies-, by the peoplo generally, than that of slavery.Resolved, That petitions f o Congress on the subject of Slavery are etjually with othei-s entitled to respectful consideration according to the Constitution of the United States: and therefore it ia manifesfïy a víolafion of the CoTistitutkm of the U. S. to rejeet them, or to enact any law or rule adapted to repress petitíons on this subject.Resolved, That íí ís the duty of all good citizens fo make a specdy and united effort to induce Congress to abolish slavery in the District of Columbía and all th Territories where it exists. Mr, Jennings dissented from the last two resolutions. Late Legislativo Action on Üie subject of Adultery and Fornication. Resolved, That it is recommended by this Synod as a thing of deep importance for the protection of innocence and virtue, and for the prevention of and pimishment of crime, that the members of our churches ín their individual character, and in the exercise of their civil rights unite with the community at large in pe titioning the Legislature of this State to repeal the act of the last legislature, vhich repealed seciions Ist and 5th of Chapter viii, title Ist, part 4 of the revised statutes, and for the re-enactment of the same sections, or other sufíiciení provisions of law, for the prevention and punishnient of adultery and fornicaiion. Bener-olent Operalions. Resolved, That on the second day of each rneeting of Synod, an inquirj' shall be made of the members as to ivhat they and their congregations have done during the year in general for the greát objecta of Christian Benevolence and specifically for the cause of Home and Foreign Missions, and the eduoatiou of youth for the gospel ministry. l Preshtery of Ionia. Resolved, That the ministers and churches in the following counties be constituted intoa Presbytery to be known by the name of the Presbytery of Ionia, viz: Shiawassee, Clinton, Ionia, Kent, Ottawa and the territory north of these counties. The iïrst meeting of said Presbytery to be held at Lyons, Ionia county, on the first Wednesday of January next, 1844, at two o'clock, P. M.- at the Rev. Seth Hardy be appointed to preach the opening sermón and preside until a Moderator be chosen, and in case of his absence or inability to act, the oldest minister present shall perform that service.
