- The recent explorations have discovered on eBsy and convenient pass throtig-Ii the Rocky Monntains, hithcrto supposerl to be a continuous and nparly impossable ridg-e of hill nnd rock. The survoy was conducted upder the supervisión of Liev.t. Fremont, of the U. S. arm)'. This pasa hns nothing of the winding and precipit ons character of the gorges in the Allerrhaniep, but is approached from a sandy ploin. 120 miles long, and Jeads by a gradual and regular ascent to the summit, about 7,000 feet abovo the level of the sea. It is ascertained to be thirty miles within the territory of the United States. lts latitude is 42 deg. 27 min. 15 sec.
