The Lost Trvnk Fovnd, andabout% ;4,000 of the money Recovered. - The Pomeroy Trunk wcs fouud last evening in Rivington street, in this city. And was dctccted in the following manner: It appears that a íjpóOO note of the Mcrchants Bank of this city, was sent by the Bank of New York to tiie for.Tier in exchangp, where it vas recognizod ns on e of the lost bilis in that trunk. This bill har? been deposited in the Bonk of Ne,y York by Yon Seht Sc Co. of No. 14 Ceder street, who reeeived it from a Mr. Lackner a Germán, who arrived in this country about six monlhs since, and vlio paid it to Von Seht & Co. for goode hc. Rivington street, in the basement. Judge T. and ofiïcer McGrath wont to Rivin.crtnnstreet to ivatch the premises for the arrival of Lackner. As soon as Lack ner was arrested, the Mayor direcíed Judge Taylorko scarch h3 premises in Rivington streel, and Hiere found that very trunk, and about $44,000 of moncy. Finale of the Exprrss Rohhc.ry. - Lackner. the robber of Pomeroy's Express, commilted suicide in his cell on Sunday, the 14th, by hanging himself from his bunk with a 6i!k handkcrcbief. An attempt was made to resusciatc, him, but it proved unavefling. - Verily, the way of the transgressor is hard. Ths officers discovered in tlie chimney of the house, whcre Lackner boarded, some einders uf the uncompleted bilis. On announcing his fact lo Lackner's wife, sho confessed that ïer husband had burnt a large quantity of bilis and several letters in stove in their rooms. The enlire contents of the tronk, except the money recovered, hadheen destroyed. - Del. Adv. South CAnowN.- The senatehave passer! a bill limitinrr Llie judicial tenure to si.ty-five years. In the house, the anti-dueling bill received 62 votes- 49 against it; showiog an evident gain in itg favor,An easy method to clean Ice f rom stone steps and from side-walcs.- As the season of the year has arrived whèri ice upon the door stfps, in house yards and on side walks, s troublefome and dangerous to walk npon, I will state for information, a simple, cheap, and eflectua) means of melting theice at 'once, even while the cold is bclow temprature ot Zero. Take a small quantity of fine snit, and sprinkle t over the ce,and t will irnrnedintely begin to Üquify, nnd n q[ short time disnppcar. The process is more efiectual than it wonld be to scatter burning coals upon the surfuce of the ice. The sait when it comes in coniact with t!ie ice, begins to riecripifaje, and acrackling noisfi is made. Pumps in vvhich the water is frozen hard, can be cleared of ice in a shor' time by throwing intolhe pump a quanrity of fine saH. Believing the sugrgestion will be useful lo many, is my motive for giving ils pubücalion. I have royself made a thorongb trial of th;s mode of rernoving ice, anrl thus tested i' by the standard ofexpe.-ience. - Journal oj Cuinmcrce.
