Clay speaks of that class oi politicians - those parties - those candidates who unblushingly proclaim, that they - '■'have ojrposed and toould continue lo oppose any scheme whatever of emancipación, gradual or immediaie" - "it is not tuue, and they RJ3JOICE that it is not Irue, that eilher of the two great parties in this country has any design or aim at abolition - thcy would deeply lambnt if it vvere true." And Ihey who declare "inflexible and uncompromising opposition to every attempt on the part of Congress to abolish slavery in the District of Columbia, against the wishes of the slaveholding states, and also a determination equally decidcd to resist the süghtest interference with it in the states where it exists." Yes, of such fiendish traitorsto humanity,,he holds the following language: "Then there remains a fragment of men, who a?e the shameless advocates of slavery, with a perverse nature, such as inspires the unworthy bosoms of convicts, they pride themselves upon their pre eminence in guilt. and challenge the abhorrence of mankind to elévate them to that notoriety which they have despaired of obtaining by virtuous decds. - Countryman. 1Lf The urticle of B.
