The following paragraph from the Manchester (N. H.) Democraf, wi]l serve to give our readers an idea of how that portion of the Northern Locofoco Press, lesa observed by the South is preparing to wage the battle: - (The Italics and capitals are just as we find them in the Democrat's editorial.) - N. Some uec one kind of phraseology, some anotber. And so long as eacli kesps within the bounda of dècency, his manner of stating them should not be censured; provjded they are strictly true. We sec nolhing in this sentence that, if truc, can be obnoxious to just censure. Tbat Mr. Clay cultivatC8 his fields by slave labor, is admitted: that he correcte his elaves by ihe use of thp cartwhip, (or did do it in 1040,) is a statement derived froni his own hired man: that it is used daily, we have no means of knowing : that the toil and Bweat of his slaves supplies him with the means of living, is undeniable: that he spends those means in gambling and debauchery, is an assertion not sustained bv any individual facls known to us. But Mr. Ahel Brotvn, of Albany, was indicted a year or two since for making this statement which heuffered to prove, nnd the case has not been prosecuted to judgment.
