He b not fit to be a foreign minister, but he may do less injury to his country abroad than he would as a brawliug member of Congrees. 05a The Temperance cause in the Lower village of Ann Arbor is arresting general attent ion. The old society have held four meetings recently, and received an addiiion of 40 or fifry members. We attended the meeting ofthe Mechanic's Temperance Society last Tuesday evening, and were highly gratified lo find the room crowded, and the society numbering sonie 150 members. The Secretary stated that a large portion of them had never before taken the pledge, and qoitt a number had been confirmeti nebriates. (t? The Secretary of State has despatched a letter to Mr. Everett, to enquire of the British Government whether they intend to deliver up those1 seven fugitive slaves who escaped from Florida to the Bahamas in a boat. It will be remembered that President Tyler sent a vessel of war tothe Bahamas to bring them back. but the local authorites refused to deliver them up. ftT Navigation has commenced on the I Hudeon River.
