Swim Program Draws 7,521

YPSILANTI — A total of 7,-521 adults and youngsters participated this summer in the swimming program sponsored by the City Parks and Recreation Department at the Ypsilanti High School pool.

Jesse A. Rutherford, assistant recreation director, said this compared to 10,652 participants last year but noted that this year’s program was shortened by one week. The program closed last Friday to permit time for pool repairs before the opening of school next month.

Rutherford said there was a heavy demand for lessons this year, with classes frequently including between 30 and 40 persons. Six classes were held each day Monday through Thursday. Open swimming sessions on Fridays were attended average of more than 100 children

Teenage and family nights, conducted; once a week, received “sporadic response,” but attendance : jumped occasionally to 30 and 50, Rutherford" said.
