The Uj).- The grand spectade of the blowing up of a ship, while under full sail, by Col t's Marine Battery, came off on Saturday, I3th, and in the most successful and mpoeing mnaner, as we Iearn from the Washington correspondent of the Journa] of Commeiep- Many thousands witnessed the sight, both shores of the Potomac being tlironed with peopJc. A magnificeut water spou.t.or jet was seu' towering up 10 the heavcna. Tiie ship (of 500 (ons burden) was g-ot under way by Lieut Boy lf, nd was namcd the Styx. The Styx was putsteadily on her course up the channel, towards the Navy Yard, and, when the officers liad left her, and the signal was given,u powerrui battery exploded a quarter of a mile ahead of her. Boon't Perpetual Motion.-We were very ruuch inieresíed and gratified by an examination of the machine recently nvented by Col. Boon, of Haroilron, Madison county for perpetua] motion which is now exhibiting at the Mechanics Hall. That the ingenious inventor has constructed an instrument which will continue in motion without being ever touched again as long as time lasts and the material of which the machine is composed endures, is very evident to every one who examines it. Two natural powers, expansión and gravitation which are constamly jijj operation in different directions are eo set to work by means of machinery, as to forward the same end. Whether the invention can be of much practical advanlae, may be questionable, but it ís well vvorth Beeing.- Ulka Gazetlee.
