The Associañon mei on last Tuesday evening. lts hall was thronged with a large auditory, in anticipation of a discussion between Z. Plntt Esq. in behalfof the Whigs, and Judge W'lkins on the Liberty side. Official duties, however, cnused by Court being in sension precluded the attendnnce oC the Judge. ín his absence a discussion was had between Mr. Platt, and C. H. Stewari Esq., respecting some poshions Mr. Stewart had advanced, and Mr. Platt denied. The president read aloud the ptinciples of the party. Mr. Stewart added a few explanatory remarka. Mr. Platt then spoke for an hour and a quarter. This brought ihe hour lo past 10 o'clock, and did not perniit reply. After a ícw minutes remarks by Mr. Stewart, the assouiation adjourned for one week for his reply, and a continuance of the subject. The hearers appeared niuch interest. Mr. Platt spoke with ability. and pleasing effect. - He was repeatedly cheered, Mr. Stewart's concluding reaiürks were equally well received. and all allowed that the deba'e was highly interesting, as well as courteous and instructive. 0UThe asaociation ha? changed its evenmg of meeting from Tuesday to Monday. Hencefortb it will meet on every second and fourth Monday, in ench month. CPIn the discussion in the General Conference, Mr. Longstreet, of Georgia, advanced as an apology for Bishop Andrew who had married a elaveholding wife. that "it wae difficult to firul at the South a woman of inielligence and refinement who was not a slavoholder." We believe this to be a slander on the females of the South; but admitting it to be strictly true, what a picture does it present of the general dcbasement of the sex caused by Slavefy! {CT McDuffie's resolution for the annexaüon of Texas was laid on the table of the Senate by a vote of 27 to 19. Thus the project by Treaty and by Joint Resolution has failed. Col. Ben- ton's hill will test it by a ihird mettiod. It is pretty certain to fail at present.O The Method8ts of Richinond, Va. have held an indignation meeting in reference to the proceedings agaínst Bishop Andrew. JNobody hurí! EP A large State Liherty Convention was held at Akron, Ohio, June 5. Dr. Brisbane, formerly of South Carolina, was present, and addressed the meeting with niuch abillty. ET "Still they come." The "Beacon of Libeny" is the title of another Liberty paper, j-st commenced nTaunton Masa. This makes three m the State. Another is expected to appear shordy in Lowcll. O President Tyler has aent another message to the House of Representativo, with various documents, urging the Annexation of Texas in 8ome shape.EPThe papers state, on the authoriiy of Roben Wickliffe, late a prominent Kentucky Whig. that C. M. Clay has not liberated his slaves. - He made application to court for the liberation ofnine out 63, but not having left the proper description, they are atill alavés. ETThe N. E. Antislavery Society,at their late anniversary, followed the American Society in adopüng reaolutions of withdrawal from the American government. The seceders intend to place themselvea on the footing of aliens and foreigners. The resolution of seceesion was adopted by a vote of 250 yeai, to 24 nays. C? We leatn that on Friday Ia6t, Charles Chorr, who was confined in our County jail for miirder, and whose motion for a new trial comes on next December, escaped from tbe jail, in company whh two other prisoners confined there.{tr"lt is supposed that Congress ad journed last Monday.
