The charge agninst Mr. Polk of being a Duellist, and of haring killed his man, is now abandoned by the Whig papers, and he is stigmatized ns a "cowardly, nosetweaked candidate," because when heset on a rartain occasion in Congress by some armed souihern ru(fians,he did not fight. This aflair ihose who are interesfed can senle to their tasie. We are not acquainted with lis deta.ls. Fogjftr part, we think a quarrel some contentioifejadling character whorepeatedly tries to kill liiigor.ist with d"adly wenpons, is quite as undeserving of public support for the Presidency, as a peaceable, harmless, timfcJ man. who quarrels with none. But we prefer a candidate who is neither coward nor bully - one i:who daresdo all that dolh become a man!" But we took our pen to eay that so far as we have seen, the allegation that Mr. Polk sa Slaveholder, is not denied by auy person haHng competent knowledge of the facts. The Free Press quotesa retraction of thts charge from the Boston Morning Cbronicle, which retraction we cannoi find in that paper. The article of the Free Press is extensively copied, and we beheve tells a story contrary to the truih.
