Race Horse Trainer Dies At Age Of 79
Alonzo H. Middleton, 79, a caretaker and trainer for race horses, died Wednesday night at his home, 3266 Henry Rd., Scio township, after a short illness.
Mr. Middleton was born on Feb. 19, 1874, in Florence, Ky., a son of Henry and Sarah Middleton.
He had been in Ann Arbor for the past 34 years, and for a number of years had been a caretaker for race horses for several local owners and worked at the Fairgrounds track at one time.
He was married on Nov. 20, 1902, to Carrie Thomas. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last month. Surviving is his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Floyd E. Wing of Ann Arbor; a granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lucy List of Hamilton, O. Another daughter, Estella K. Middleton, died here Oct. 16, 1951.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Muehlig Chapel, with the Rev. Erland J. Wangdahl officiating. Burial will be in Washtenong Memorial Park. Friends may call at the chapel.
