Mrs. Belle D. Croarkin, widow of the late Edward Croarkin, and widely known for her interest in the humane society program, died Friday night at her home at 907 Granger Ave., after a short illness.
She was born in Dexter, Jan. 26, 1865, and was a daughter of the late James E. and Mary Ella DeViney Honey. Her early life was spent in Dexter. She had lived in Ann Arbor since 1912.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Ann Arbor Women's Club and the Book and Thimble Club. She was active for many years in the Humane society, which she formerly served as secretary.
Mrs. Croarkin was graduated from the University of Michigan from which she received her master's degree in 1904. She was principal of the St. Louis High school for a number of years.
Mr. Croarkin died March 26, 1923. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Carl F. Mayer of Flint; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Muehlig chapel with Rev. Leonard Parr officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery at Dexter.
