Miss Ida M. Schaible Had Retired From System In 1936
Miss Ida M. Schaible, known to the hundreds of students who attended Ann Arbor High school during the 21 years she was a member of the faculty, died early this morning at her home at 1111 Olivia Ave.
Miss Schaible, who had been seriously ill the last three weeks, had been in failing health for about three years, and retired from the high school faculty in the summer of 1936.
A session room teacher in the local high school, Miss Schaible was in charge of freshman students from 1915 to 1923, and then was assigned to the senior class session room. That was at the time the freshman year was eliminated from the high school by the organization of the junior high schools.
Served As Adviser
In these capacities, Miss Schaible served as adviser to the students, counselling them in their personal problems and assisting them with their studies, as well as directing many of the class activities. The students paid her a special tribute by dedicating the 1924 issue of their yearbook, The Omega, to her.
A graduate of the high school, Miss Schaible received her bachelor of arts and master's degree from the University of Michigan. She also attended Teachers' College, Columbia University.
She taught various subjects in the high schools at Gaylord and White Pigeon, Mich., Mt. Sterling, Ill., Fenton and Adrian, Mich., before joining the Ann Arbor faculty.
Born In Ann Arbor
Miss Schaible was born March 21, 1879, in Ann Arbor, a daughter of J. F. and Katherine F. Kauffmann Schaible. She was a member of various teachers' organizations.
Surviving are a brother, Stephen J. Schaible of this city; a sister, Miss Clara Katherine Schaible, a member of the faculty of Detroit Northern High school; and an aunt, Miss Louise Kauffmann, with whom Miss Schaible made her home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the Muehlig chapel. The Christian Science service will be read. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
