Mrs. Emma I. Kirby, 70, widow of William J. Kirby, died last night at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. Her home was at 328 S. Fourth Ave.
Born on Oct. 17, 1876, in Ann Arbor, Mrs. Kirby was the daughter of Frederick and Emile Yanke Schleyer. She was married to William J. Kirby in 1898 and lived in Detroit from 1908 until 1934, returning to Ann Arbor after her husband's death. She was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church here.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth J., of Detroit; one grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Paul and Miss Berthilda Schleyer, both of Ann Arbor.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 Monday afternoon at Muehlig chapel, with Rev. Theodore Schmale officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
