Age 76, died early Thursday morning, June 11, 1981, at her residence. She was born December 27, 1904 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Martin and Bertha Weinman Schaller. Mrs. Slater had been a resident of Ann Arbor all of her life. She was married to Marvin J. Slater in 1926; he preceded her in death November 11, 1930. Mrs. Slater owned and operated the Slater Book Store after her husband's death. It was closed in 1972. She graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1922 and received her degree from the University of Michigan Literary School in 1926. Mrs. Slater was an enthusiastic University of Michigan football fan and before scholarships were available, she provided textbooks for the players in need. She was a member of the Zonta Club. Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Peter R. and Joan C. Elliott of Canton Ohio; two grandsons, Bruce N., who is an attorney in Ann Arbor, and David L., Assistant Football Coach at Washington State University. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chester H. Loucks officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Slater's name to the Whitehall Convalescent Center. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
