Description
Musician Quintron is known as an organist and multi-instrumentalist, but those terms alone don't really get at the full scope of his music-making. He's also a tinkerer and inventor — coming up with DIY instruments to make the sounds he wants and needs for his performances and recordings.
From the Spit Machine (a drum machine powered by saliva) to the Weather Warlock (a synth that makes sounds based on weather) to the Drum Buddy (which creates drum sounds when exposed to light), Quintron has developed ingenious takes on how to make noise, sound, and music.
He'll be bringing his Drum Buddy to the AADL for a special demonstration of just how it uses oscillators, a coffee can and light to make sounds and, ultimately, music. This event will be a fun peek into the science of such instruments, how they work, and might offer inspiration for curious musicians and inventors of all ages.
You may already know that the library has synths you can check out, but this event just might inspire you to build your very own!
