Mrs. Gayley Dies At Berkeley Home
Mrs. Sally Harris Gayley, widow of Prof. Charles Mills Gayley, former University of Michigan faculty member, who was a brother of Mrs. Shirley W. Smith of S. University Ave., died Sunday in her home at Berkeley, Calif.
Mrs. Gayley was a daughter of Rt. Rev. Samuel S. Harris, second Episcopal bishop of Michigan, in whose honor Harris hall here was named. Prof. Gayley, who died July 26, 1932, was a member of the University of Michigan faculty from 1880 to 1889, and then joined the University of California faculty. He became a professor-emeritus in 1923.
Prof. Gayley was the co-author with the late F. N. Scott and A. A. Stanley of "The Yellow and the Blue."
Mrs. Gayley was an aunt of William P. Harris, jr., of Grosse Pointe, who is an honorary associate curator of mammals in the University museum of zoology. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John T. Stephenson, of San Francisco, and her nephew.
Funeral services and interment took place today in Berkeley.
