School consultant E. B. Kummer dies

Elizabeth B. Kummer, a legislative vice president for the League of Women Voters and former secretary to the Ann Arbor PTO Legislative Council, died Monday. She was 54. Besides being a part-time consultant to the Ann Arbor Public Schools, Kummer was rated one of the most diligent and respected lobbyists in Lansing, promoting the League of Women Voters. Dr. John W. Porter, state superintendent of public instruction, called her "a great individual with a real commitment to quality education." KUMMER WAS BORN January 18, 1924, in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of Jesse L. and Mildred Montgomery Bollman. She had lived in Ann Arbor since 1960. Two years later she was appointed by the State Board of Education and served on national committees for Support of Public Schools until 1972. She was also a former Girl Scout Troop Leader and had served on the University of Michigan Sesquicentennial Committee. SURVIVORS include four children, Frederick T. of Hackensack, N.J.; Marian E. Kummer, of Ann Arbor, David T. Kummer of Houston, Texas, and Joseph T. Kummer, of Ann Arbor. Her mother and father and her brother Jesse, of Rochester, Minn., also survive. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Rev. Gordon M. Jones officiating.
