-The hisfory of the growth ofWool is vpry cuiious. Fifty years ago not a pojnd of fine Wool was raised in the Unitetl Siatesr in Great Britain, or in uny otfaer country except Spain - in the Jatter country the flocka were owned exclusively by the nobility or by the crown. In 1794, a small flock was sent to the Elector of Saxony. as a present from the Kiug of Spain, whence the entire product of Soxony Wool, now of such immense vnlue . Before the breaking out of the last war between this country and Great Britain, Co!. Humphreys succeeded in gettiníj a few merino sheep brought out of Spain, though their exportation was prohibited under the penalty of being sent to the galleys for life. In 1809, during the second invasión of Spain by the French, eome of the yaluable Crown flocks were sold to raise money. Our Consul at Lisbon, Mr. Jarvis, purchased fourleen hundred heod; and eent them to this country. Previously, however, Mr. Living, slon oblained a few sheep of the Spuniah breed, as a present, in 1792.
