Elizabeth Ward, Edmond DeVine Are Married
Elizabeth Palmer Ward of Pontiac was married to Edmond Francis DeVine, Washtenaw county prosecuting attorney, in a noon service today at St. Hugo of the Hills, Bloomfield Hills.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Edward C. Burkhardt, former assistant at St. Mary’s Student Chapel, assisted by the Rev. Francis T. Stack, pastor of St. Hugo’s Church.
The bride is the daughter of Harold Lee Ward of Pontiac and the late Virginia Palmer Ward. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. DeVine of Seneca Ave.
Wears Antique Satin
For the ceremony the bride wore a gown of heavy antique ivory satin with an oval neckline and a full skirt pleated from the waistline. Small leaves of satin appliques formed short sleeves.
Her full-length veil was of heirloom point-applique lace, which belonged to her grandmother, and ivory tulle. A close-fitting cap was circled by a small wreath of orange blossoms which ahd been worn by her mother on her wedding veil. The bride carried a handkerchief of heirloom rose-point lace. Her bouquet was of phalaenopsis orchids, lilies of the valley, tiny white roses and fleurs d’amour.
Has Ten Attendents
Miss Virginia Palmer Ward was her sister’s maid of honor. Miss Ann Ward, the bride’s sister, and Miss Catherine DeVine, the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs. Ollen E. Peters the bride’s cousin and Miss Elaine Appel, both of Orchard Lake, Mrs. Paul Connolly of Birmingham, Mrs. John W. Crim of Elma, N.Y., Mrs. Robert Prescott Cygil, jr. of Shaker Heights, Mrs. Elliot H. Phillips of Grosse Pointe and Mrs. William A. Wick of Indianapolis were the bridesmaids.
The bride’s three-year-old Goddaughter, Martha Dianne Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kingsley M. Brown, jr., of Birmingham, was the flower girl.
The bridesmaids’ full-length gowns were of soft moss green taffeta with bouffant skirts, short sleeves, and wide squared necklines. The green of the dresses was accented by the small headbands of green velvet leaves and tiny white roses. They carried bouquets of white snowdrift chrysanthemums and ficus fern.
Brother is Best Man
John B. DeVine of Yost Blvd. was his brother’s best man. Kevin Kennedy of East Aurora, N.Y., the bridegroom’s brother-in-law, William Barnes of Cambridge, Mass., John C. Donnelly and Joseph A. Moynihan, jr., of Grosse Pointe, John Gorman of Macomb Ave., John C. Hunter of Heather Way, Lt. Konrad Matthaei of Geddes Ave., John F. Shafroth of Denver, and William A. Wick of Indianapolis were ushers.
The reception was held at the home of the bride’s grandmother, the late Mrs. Palmer Bradfield, the same house in which Miss Ward’s parents were married.
To Travel to Jamaica
For traveling, the bride wore a light wool suit of French blue and a matching cloche with soft feathers around the brim. Her other accessories were navy blue.
Mt. and Mrs. DeVine will travel to Jamaica, B. W. I., for their wedding trip. When they return, they will live in Ann Arbor.
The bride attended Chatham Hall in Virginia and was graduated from Kingswood School Cranbrook and Smith College. She is a member of Sigma Gamma Association, the Junior League of Birmingham and the National Society of Colonial Dames.
Mr. DeVine is an assistant professor of law at the University and is engaged in law practice in Ann Arbor. Her husband was graduated from the University and the U-M Law school, receiving his master of law degree from the Catholic University of America at Washington, D. C. He is a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Phi Delta Phi law fraternity, and the Barrister, an honorary law society. Presently a lieutenant in the Naval Reserves, he was a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and served in the Pacific as an air combat intelligence officer during World War II.
