These folks toured around the world this summer - in books. They represent 23 of the group of 30 who completed the reading of at least 10 books in the Around the World Tour club conducted by the Ann Arbor public library, under the direction of Miss Hazel Keedle, librarian for the junior department. A total of 100 boys and girls registered for tickets for the tour at the close of school last June, but quite a number found it necessary to discontinue their fiction and adventure travels before the circuit of the globe was finished. Some, however, read more than the 10 required books and went on traveling, one young man reading 18 books. As soon as one book on a given country was finished, the club member wrote a review of it in the library. When the review was approved, his tour ticket was marked for an extension of the trip. Those in the picture from left to right, beginning with the top row, are as follows: Joan Messersmid, Doris Lee, Jennie Rosenthal, Ruby Laing, Mary Frey, Jeanne Norris, Ruth Angspurger and Olive Smith; middle row - George Kalachow, Particia Claire, Hazel Lee, Doris Kern, Joanna Reading, Dorothy Laing, Margaret Hollowell, Virginia Riley, Don Nixon and Carl Kessler; front row - Betty Hoag, Rose Young, Wilhelmina Birk, Betty Nixon and Johanna Smith.
