Reburial Services For Sgt. Powell Scheduled Thursday

Reburial services for Sgt. Wesley Powell of Whitmore Lake, who died Sept. 21, 1944, from wounds suffered while fighting in Germany, will be held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon at Washtenong Memorial Park.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Powell of 150 Barker Rd., Whitmore Lake
Sgt. [P]owell saw combat duty in France for two months before his infantry unit entered German territory.
Selected for service in March, 1943, Sgt. Powell was trained at Camp Pickett, W. Va., and Camp Robinson, Ark. Before entering the armed forces, he was an attendant at Silkworth’s gas station in Ann Arbor.
A private when shipped overseas in October of 1943, Powell won his first strip in England, and two more during the fighting in France. Besides his parents, he is survived by four brothers, Cornelius, Donald, Lawrence and Merwin, all of Whitmore Lake; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Richard Powell of Dundee.
Members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct the graveside services. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel between 10 and 1 o’clock Thursday.
