Il was a biessed summcr day; The flowers bloomnd, ihe air was mild. The little birds ponred forth their lay, And every thing n nature emiled. In pleaeant thouht I wandered on, Beneath the deep wood's ampie shude, Tll enddenly I carne upon Two children who hsd thither etrayed. Just at an oged birch tree's foot, A little boy and girl reclined; Ui hand in hers she kindly put - And then I saw the child was blind. ♦Dea" Mary, said the poor blind boy, That little bird sings very long; Say, do you see hiin in his joy, And is he pretty as his song'?' "Yen, EJward, yes, replied the maid; I see the bird on yonder tree;' The poor boy eighed, and gentlv said, 'Siater, I wiah that I could see.Tbe flowers you say are very fair, And brig-bt green leaves ure o .he treee, Aud pretty birds ai e singing there- How beautiful forone who eees! Yet I the fragrant flower can emell, And I can feel the green leaf 's shade; And I can hear the notes that pwell From these dear birds that God has made.
