Miss Carrie Seelye Dies At Her Home

MISS CARRIE SEELYE DIES AT HER HOME

Miss Carrie Naomi Seelye, 214 N. Thayer St., died at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at her home after several years of failing health.

Her parents, the late Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Seelye, came here to live more than 50 years ago, after the Rev. Mr. Seelye, a member of the Detroit Methodist Conference, had retired from the ministry, and the family home was on Washington St., in the block now occupied by the Rackham building. The three sisters and two brothers attended schools and college here, and Miss Seelye studied piano with a private teacher, later taking pupils herself. She was graduated from the Chicago Deaconesses’ School, for home and foreign missionary service, and served as a deaconess in Chicago and in Denver, giving up this work to return to Ann Arbor, when her mother became ill. She took charge of the care of her mother until the latter’s death seven years later.

Miss Seelye is survived by a sister, Miss Jennie M. Seelye, with whom she has lived; also by a brother, Rev. M. T. Seelye of Marlette, Mich.; and by eight nephews and nieces, Howard and Warren Seelye of Detroit; Warren Kendrick of Elmhurst, Ill.; Othello Seelye of Coldwater; Lloyd Seelye of Mt. Morris; Mrs. Carl Keyes of St. Joseph; Mrs. Mabel Wilson of Pontiac; and Carroll Seelye of Lapeer. A brother, Osman, of Detroit, and a sister, Mrs. Warren Kendrick, died some years ago.

Friends may call at the Dolph Funeral home where services will be conducted at 2:30 Monday afternoon by Dr. Charles W. Brashares of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in the family lot in Forest Hill Cemetery.
