Some weeks sínce, we published a letter of Gen. McCalla, of Kentucky, affirming1 that Henry Clay gornbled on the 4th of July, 184S, aot) won beUveen one and two hundred dollar, and ofiTering to prove it, if denied. We have not seeu any denial of this specific charge; btit we find in the papers, a letter, f'ated Sep. Srd.,from Roben Wicfcliffê, a prominent gentlomáh of Kenfncky, respecting the matter. Havihg been infornred of a meeting of the people on iiis farm near Lexnjton, he attended. His letter continúes thus ; Onmy arrival, I saw a nuniber of card tables eet out, and a party were engaged at play on most of tbem; and nmong the partjes engaged at play, I observed one in which Ma. Clay wns eugoged play ing at cards, and I saiv specie staked up, na I snpposed by the party, of which Mr. Clay constituted one. as long as I remained, wbich was aboiit four hours. I think Mr. Clay continued to play, except when he aróse to drink or dine; at least, as I stnfted for homo, I pnsssd near wl)ere he had been playing when I fírst saw him engaged at play, and he was still playingat the same table."
