borne one of our cotemporaries has oberved, that to profess antislavery principes, and support the Whig party, is the urest road to office, and high consideraion in the party. Giddings was re-elected for his antislavery, after having been isgraced on account of it, and now tands high on the Whig platform. Matocks, of Vermont, a Whig Abolilionist, was made Governor of that State; and vas succeeded by Slade, another Aboliionist, whogoesabout preaching that the Whig is "the true Liberty party." Seward, of New York, who addresses the Clay conventions as "Emancipationists," heads the party in that State; while Millard Fillmore, who travels around with Abolition Statistics to prove the ascendency of the Slave Poweu, is the nominee of the Whig proslavery party for Governor! Thegreat ado that the Whigs make about Cassius Clay, whose sole business at the North appears to be to get anislavery men to vote for a slaveholder, s notorious to all. Should his relative )eelected, he will doubtless receive some more substantial reward than mere praise; for Henry has just written to him thathe fecls grateful for his friendly intenions," and is "hankful for his friendly purposes" in inducing liberty men to support him. These things show that politicianshave already discerned that thereis a Liberty Power at the North, as.well as a Slave Power ai the South. ttj The last advices from Europe tate that the war between France and VTorocco, which has existed for some months, had come to an end. The Sulan has given way, an# dreading the iower he has provoked, sues for terms. - The telegraphic despatches transmitted by the Prince de Joinville from Tangier o the lOth uit. states that, "The Moorish government has demandèd peace. The fleet arrived at Tangier thisday. The Governor of the own carne on board to renew his demand. Our conditions have been signified and accepted, and treaty signed. Duing the day, the Consulate General has been re-establislied, and its flag saluted by the town. Orders to cease all hostilty, and to leave the Island of Mogador. will be despatched this afternoon." This intelligence, which has been most favorably received in France, has been also gralefully received in England, as it will prevent any possible chance of a colisión between the two countries.OCf That Roorback story has been traced back to one William Linn, a Demcratic oflïce-holder of Ithica. So the Chronicle say's, in which pnper the article was first published. We will thank Mr. Linn, when he puts afloat any more articles of this character, not to attach the signature of "An Abolitiontst" to them. The Convention of seceding Democrats of Madison County, N. Y. was held pursuant to notice, and was abl)r addressed by Maj. Curtís, A. C. Stone, and Jndge Foote. The Court House not béng large enough to contain all the peojle, the Convention adjourned to an adoining grove. The meeting was enthuiastic, and augers wcll forthe redemption of Madiaon County.
