The returns fiom thie State, as far as heard. preponderate in favor of Polk. The accounts lilherto received are not sufficient to determine the political cast of the State with certainty.CC?5 The counties ofCrawford and Butler, Pa. were organized for Liberty this year for the first time. The former county gave the überty candidate for Goveruor 164 votes, and the Jatter, 108. This was a fair begin uing. 05a James Gordon, the murderer of Amasa Sprague, has been sentenced by the SupremeCourt of Rhode Islantf to be hanged on he 14th of February. 05a" The papers contain a eíory from thr Clevelnnd Plaindealer, to the effect that the Rev. Mr. Fairbank, an AboJition minister of Ohio, and Miss Webster, a neice of Daniel Websier, have been indicted by the Grand Jury of Fayette County, OIüo, and are now n jail awaiting trial.
