-The Cuuiity of WasLtenaw owcs the Stato an ackuowledged and adjustcd dcbt of over seven thousand dollars, and yet for two years ihe Board of Supervisors has refused to pay anything but the interest. Tilia may be good policy, but we doubt it. If a County is able to pay ita debts it is poor economy to keep paying interest. It may be good policy for a new C'ouuty. with a small aggregatc valuation and large quantities of uuimproved lands to contract a dcbt to raakc improvement3 and let the future population who will derive the benefits help pay it. But it is certainl}' uuwise for au old and settled county, a eounty who.so population must remaiu nearly the samo for ycars, to_kcep on paying interest year after year on a delt wliich could be wipcd out in a single year and the tax-payers hardly feel t. This lias been a year of prosperity, a year of abui.dance, and the Supervisors have let a golden opportunity slip. - They should at least have paid half the debt this year, and next year wiped it out entirely. We hope this temporizing policy will not bo pursued in future vears. Let Washtenaw County pay her honest debts and stand square with the world. Q lt is charged, and with a great show of trutb, tliat thu Republicana of Livingston County aro largoly engngéd in importa Dg votera from Gonesee lo save their county ticket, nnd especiaüy tho Judge of Probate candidnte who is finding "Jordán a hard rond to travel." It is alao probably expeeted that these impostad voters will vota fur Granqbr, and then in caso of Lotiirop's eloction by a mnjority of less than tlneo or fiur hundred stand ready to swear Gkanuf.r into a seat to which the peoplo had refused to elect him. Tliis was dono tor IIowak, and men imported to vote fora Repubücan candidate for Alderman and a Repubücan candidato for Senator, and who every oandid manberwvesvotëd for Howard, Bvvore Coopeii out of Congruss. The Demócrata of Livingston County should lojk to thia matter; and it would be well ulso for tho Demócrata in the Tovrns of Wayne, Watihtonaw and Jackson bordering on the Second Congrossional district to keop an eyo out for now corners. Let thom be watched on election day. t3F The Detroit Adccrtitcr publithcs wbat purports to bo an extract frora a letter from Archbishop IIuoiies to a Catholic priest at Iowa City, certifying that Djugi.ab joint'J the CatLolic Cliurch at Rome, now a meiubcr in good stauding, and pledged to advance tho interests of the Ohurch. Admitting this to be truc, what does tho Aihcrlmr propose to do about it? " ïhe State News don't admire the speech of Scn.NAitKi. made in tha Court House on Thursdny erening of last week. We don't wonder at it, It snot liuiuan nature tbr a man to liiss the rod that Kinitris Lira, and Scunabel bo btilaborod the Republicana th;vt tliey ave exptoted to denontice him. I
