It ia a liyely sketch, and showa much Bkill' anda powerful imagination. The letter decribing the excitingscene is as tragie as the eiigraving. L3L" Mayor Barhy ' departed" for Lansing on Monday. He took with him tke proposed amendments to the City Charter, and we expect to hear of an enlargement of our borders. jL3L" I' 's sa'd that the stringent City ordinanc prohibiting the sale of liijuors to minors is being daily violated. Parents íhould cali upon the Cily aulhorities for ita enforcement. jST" A bilí lias passed both Housea of the Legiêlature to authorize the First Presbyterian Society of this City to borrow money to complete ite new church building and secure the same by mortgage. We hope the money will be readily obtained and the building pressed to an early completion. JJ3È" Kev. J. M. üregort delivered a leeture before the Studente' Lecture Association on Saturday evening last. His sub ject was "Education the work of a life-time," and, as always, he iueceeded in interesting a large audience. X3F We were absent frora the City on the occasioB of the late lecture of Cari. Scburz, but have heard it higlily compliraented. Ms. S. lectured at Adrián, Detroit, Jackson, and perhops at other places in our State. EF" Tbursday of last week is reported as the coldest day of the season or of several seasons. In this State the thermomeiter is reported as mrking from 12 to 18 degrees below zlto, and in Canada and Iforthern New York the rane was from 25 to 43 degrees bolow. Fridüy was also very cold, aud on Saturday there was a let up. fW A rain storm was inaugurated on Sunday eveniug which continued (uring a portion of Monday, and thi Bleighing suddenly collapsed, since which the odd sound of wheels is again heard in our Streets. The inow had conlinued over two monlhs and haa been well improved, both lor business and pleaauro.
