We lt'íirn from tho best autboritv, that on Friday last thcro wére in Washington 8,000 troops, whom the comrnanding ollieer considerorl perfectly reliable iorany emergeney. It was also stated that the ofRcers of the Government expected, by Tuesday evening next, to have 25,000 Ainorioan troops andei anus at the Capital. It is belicvcil tbst this forcé will be ampie to keep in check, until flifthe r reiüfoYce mciits oan arriy.e, any íorce that can be brought agair.st them. One of the patrol, of Washington, wnting at 2 o'elock, A. M , of' Saturday, thus describes the bivouac in the Capitel : In tho second patrol of Col. Cassius M. Clay's command, I visited to night, carbine 'm hand, the Capitol of the United States of America. As vo approached that magnificent edifico, the prompt cali of the sentry brought us to a halt; butsooo the conference of the officc-r in command of the patrol vvith the officer of the guard, procurcd us admitlaúce, As we arrived, twoladies, oaeorted by a gentleman, who wcre understood to be volunteer nurses for the members of the Massachiü-etts regtraeot wcunded at B'altirhore, applied for admittance, though it was puit fnidnight. During the parlev between our offieer nnd the officer of tho guard, we had leisure to admiro the ampio arrangetnents in the way of barricades, which were mainly coinposed of barrels of ceinert, placed endwise, and piled np ten feet high between the immense raarblo piers and columns that fonn the various entrances of tho build. ing Entering we pnssed along its tesaelliit'íd floors, sentnus meeting us at every turn and directing us through all tho devious approaches that led us to our special obje.t of search, the quarters of the Massachusctts regiment. We found these tired and sloepingmen in the Semito Öhatnbêr, where were detivered the last national speeches of Mr. Jefferson Davis. The mei), oxhauated by four sleepless nights of travel had thrown themselves down to sleep tin; moment they reached tho building. Besides tho MassachusettB regiment, who were relieved from guard dut)', the Pennsylvauia troops were posíed in the Capito!, and also one company f' United States artillery. Alertness and discipline seemod to prevail 4t every point. We fonnd these soldiere in the most magnificent quarters in the world. - Thoy ascended staircases lined with heavy wainbeoate of tho niarble of Tennessi'O. They traversed corridors where the eloquenco of the noblest orators of the Republic, dead and living, had daily resounded. Oeilings, rich with ali the magnificence of tho docorator's art, were above their beads, and from tho walls looked down upon them the counterfeit presentmonts of the heroes of an earlier age of tho Republic, who little dreamed iheir countrymen should behold a sceno liko this.
