vvasnmgron, April iy. Commodore Paulding and Captain Jenkins, who were dispatched to tho Norfolk Navy-Yard and other points for the purpose oí lookin aller the ships and other property belonging to the Federal government have made their report to the Secretary of the Nuvy. Their timely appearance at Norfolk prevented the capture of sevoral sloopsof-vvar by the Virginian authoritiet. It appears that füll and ampie arrangements had been made to attetnpt their capture, and it is highly probable that it would have been successful. Tho government has not only prevented that, but will, it is believed, be able to hold the Mavy-Yard. There was a forcé of sorfle 3,000 men in the vicinity, who were intending to come upon them in the night. The Virginians had sunk three vesst-ls in the channel, in order to prevent their escape. The impression is that the vessels nof.v there - five sloöps-oi-wsjr will be unuble to get out, although Capt. Jenkins thinks they can. The Cumberland attempted to leave, but failed. The consequence is, that these ve6sels will have to remain uow and protect the Navy-Yaidfroin being captured, which they will probably be able to do.
