In the Square, notwïtustanding tho carly liour, a large coacourso oí' citizeua met to witness (lic presentation to eacb member of tlio Company of a copy of tlic New Testament. The prc8ertation was made in behalf of the christian ludios of omCity, by liev. L. D. Chapín, who spoke of tlie volume as ilic charter of Our libertóos, and t!u only safeguide and reliance of the soldier in the oontest now upon usUi' said that hi&tojy told of an anny whieh fooght flfty battk's williout losiug one, but that the soldtéra carricd the bible in thcir poekets and the sword in their h&ucld, and refyiug upon Plo ; tlii.s must be dono in tliis campaign. The vnlu'.nes wcre gratefully aucepted, and the thltnks of the Oomoanj returned to the donors by Gapt. lloxu. The preseutation ceremonies being over tbe Steuben Guards were eseorted to the depot, nearly the entire City gathcring tlii;rc to bid thcin good-by and Godspeed. At the depot, Judgc Gkanübk, in behalf of a few of our citizens presented Capt. Rorir witli a fine Revolver. - Alluding to the presentation of the Testaujents, tlio Judge remarked that tliey would furnish food íbr meditation, but that the Revolver might bc wanted for service, and if wantod the donors would be satisfied could they kpOW that it had been the death of ono traitor. Ile said that in tliis world there were two personages who eould not be dodged, Death and the Tax-ifatherer, and aSBQféd tlie Steuben Guards that if they went forth to nieèt death in dcfense of their country 's flag we, who-niiglit Btay at home, woukl meet all the demanda of the tax-gatherer, and wduld drive away want from the doors of the families of those who were fiïrhtinc our battlua for us. Capt. R. acuopted the gift and promised to draw it only, agamst the cnemies of bis country. - Threo tremendous cheers were then giveD for the Steuben Guards and three more for tlio [Jnion, when the parting hand was shaken and the nieu took their saats in the ears. The sceno was an impressivo o;ie. - Eighty men wcre leaving their friends, perhapa forevcr, going forth to faee death not in the ordinary avenues of lifo, but on the baüle-field, and it is not to be wondered tlint mothers, wives, d;;ughtcrs( sisters, and stern-heartod fathers, hua-. bands, brothers, and sous sh;d tears freelyThe heaviug breast and moistuned eye on suoh an occasion, mark no want of maiilincss ; but over sucii partiogUéenes we will not linger. The train moved off mid renewcd cheers, and fullowed by the good v blessings, and prayers of our congregatcd City. If it were not too ïnuch to expecb we might espress a hopo that the Steuben Guards may return with their ranks unbroken. They will not so return if their country demanda a sacrifico of their livès Tliey wül stand by the Flag, and go wlierover tlie Stars and Stripes may lead. We shall keep our readers advist d of their tnovemëuts.
