Pillow vvho is n clever gentleman in the private relations of lile, and a very cotnpanionablo man, sent us a message recent]}', which is explained in the following reply : " Knoxville, April 22, 1801. Pillow: - I have just received your message, through Mr. Sale, requesting me to serve as ehaplaio to your brigade in the south ern army ; and in the spirit of kindnefis in vvhieh the request is made, but in all candor, I return foran aDüwer, that when I have made up my rnind to go to heil, I wil! cut my throat and go direct, and not travel round by way of the Southern Confederaoy.
