■A singular covery was made at the Washington navy yard on Mcnchiy. A ceitiiin battery, oneoftho most important in the yard, had been, before tbat time, in c arge oí .'-orno of the militia of the District. VVben the regular gunners took charge thoy examinad the condition of the gutis. In every gun a peck ofsaw dust was foliad crammed tightly into the breech, "in tho plaoe whern the hall ought to bo."
