When the further developments in progrese shnll have been conipleted, we ehall have something to Éay Many of tho Whigs nre now irying to shuffle off their guilt in this transnction by 8aying that it is a small aSair; ihat no harni was done, as it was certain Birnpy could not tiave been electeil: that the Locos or Birney mengot it up, Sic. &c. But all this will not answer in the face of following fncls: 1. That it was ƒ rst pybJished every where, except in Michigan, by the Whigs. 2. Thst it was circulated and endorsed for truth, by Ihem only. 3. That no ol her party was in ihe least benefitted by it. 4. That the falae report of Mr. Birney turning Locofoco originated vvith and was suslained by the Wliig presa, and this forgery originated in the same vicinity with the repor i} travelled througii the same papers, with scarcely an exception, and (t?0 was designed for precisely the same object. .-Q 5. That so far as the forgery has been Irnced back, it was first found in the hands of leading Whigs of Detroit: thntthey saw it - they handled it - they read it - they convcrsed abont it - they inquired into its authenticity lili convinced it was a forgeiy, and then - lel iS go on its course!
