Kich Mountain, the battlc gronnd ot tlie late Union victory, is a gap in the Laurel Hill range, where the Staunton and Weston ïurupike crosses ït between Buckhannon and Boverly, and about four or five miles out frora the Jatter place. - [t is from Laurel Hill somo fifteen or sixtoon miles It is also twenty-fie miles :rom Buo-khannon. The Washington Star says: Laurel Hill ia not a mero lenob, but a long ridge or rib of the Alleghanies, extending for at least 100 miles in length. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad pierces it by means of the celebrated Kingwood Tunnel, the longest in the world. It stretches down in a direction a littlo west of south, to the head waters of the Kanawha, there called the Greenbrior River. The mnin turnpike leading to Staunton (over which Wise's army passed from Bastero Virginia toget tlms whipped out of their boots,) runs along Laurel HilFa base. Leedsville, Beverly, and Huttonvillo are situated on that turnpike.
